OK, it is crunch time already in America on the political scene. It is also morality time. It is also values time. In fact, just what political issues are also values and moral issues? As with beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. From a Judeo-Christian worldview, the one I hold, there are some obvious issues. 1. war and peace. 2. crime and punishment. 3. The 7 deadly sins and even more! 4. now what?? I can make a case for more than abortion. How 'bout illegal immigration? How 'bout high taxes and high prices which affect more than the poor? Can moral equations found in the Bible be political issues too? Will people agree on all of these? Of course not. But, isn't is important that people with a Judeo-Christian worldview still speak out even if legislation doesn't go their way. Of course. But, remember, we do not live in Jesus' Millenial Kingdom. We live in this world dimension in America with a free enterprise democratic republican form of government. We actually have a Constitution. Most Americans don't know what is in it but that is another question. They don't understand free enterprise capitalism with supply and demand either. In fact, most people of the Judeo-Christian worldview don't much understand their own Holy Book nor are they sure whether God is still the arbiter of their values as well as their political decisions. I think that as much as I can discern, my moral values that come from the Bible do impact much of my political life and voting record. Of course, I am human , a sinner, fallible and make many mistakes. Still, like I bet millions of others in America, I try to see God's hand in politics as well as anything else in our culture. I side with those issues, voting records, legislation in which I see God's will. At least I try hard to do so. I think Christians have that responsibility. They cannot hide their heads when our nation faces the crises that it faces today. So I will vote, write letters, fax representatives on all the issues that impinge on my outlook. I did today. I'll bet you know what issue captured my fancy today!
